COVID-19 Business Update

While the Coronavirus situation is changing on a daily basis and creating significant uncertainty, I believe it is important to give clarity and reassurance regarding our own situation and approach. At Bishops Printers and our mailing division, The Mailing People, it is business (as far as possible) as usual. However, the safety and welfare of our staff is paramount and we have taken a number of steps to protect them and our business capability.

Commercial staff  ** NEW **

As of 25th March, we are operating a skeleton office staff with almost all of our 30-strong commercial team either working remotely or on furlough. To ensure a swift response to any sales or production related enquiries, please direct all emails to enquiries@bishops.co.uk. If you need to speak to someone, you can ring 023 9233 4900 and your call will be answered. We are still able to book in and track your jobs, change delivery addresses and offer all our usual support.

Production

Our paper supply is as secure as it can be. We carry 600 pallets at any one time and take delivery of our house stock direct from the mill.  We have good stocks of all other consumables and have protected production staff from close contact with other staff in the business to minimise the risk of COVID-19 infection.

Deliveries **NEW **

Our own delivery fleet is still operating across the south of England, but under a revised 'no contact' protocol. We regret this will restrict their ability to offer their usual above and beyond service at the delivery destination. Additional protective measures for our drivers and customers include, the supply of gloves to all drivers and the requirement to disinfect their cab at the start and end of a shift.

Uninterrupted service

We provide in-house finishing and mailing house services to further reduce your risk of an interrupted service. I am delighted to report that our newly enhanced 3-machine stitching line is achieving speeds of 11,000 A4 stitched books per hour. 

Site visits

Site visits are prohibited for the duration of the pandemic, in line with government directives.

File copies ** NEW **

From Monday 23rd March, we will not be retaining and sending trade customers their file copies. Any that have already been produced but not sent will now be destroyed. This is to minimise the risk of infection within Bishops through avoidable contact.

Hygiene

Hand sanitising stations have been established throughout the business, and extra soap has been placed in washrooms. Our remaining on-site staff are being reminded verbally throughout the day, and via posters on all notice boards, to clean their hands thoroughly.

Our team

We have implemented ‘social distancing’ with staff who remain onsite because the nature and performance of their role means they are unable to work from home. In addition, our senior management team is meeting daily to ensure a rapid response to any and all developments.
