Brochure fit for a Royal
YMCA Fairthorne Manor in Curdridge, Southampton,
required a commemmorative brochure to mark the opening
of their new accommodation block - 'Ben's House'.

As the official ceremony was conducted by HRH The
Princess Royal, both quality and timing were of paramount
importance.  We duly took care of the entire process from
design to print and finishing to produce an excellent
brochure befitting of this prestigious event.

The internal pages were printed on smooth 170gsm Silk
with a sturdy 350gsm Silk cover featuring matt lamination
to give a stunning finish.

Factory work now complete
The factory extension and revisions to our Finishing
department have now been completed, giving us a much
more manageable set-up at our extensive premises.

Building work has included extending our Despatch function
with a larger roof and making it a completely sealed unit.
The main factory and new Finishing area have now been
linked with an additional roof above a new walkway, which
enables easy access to and from each section under cover.
The whole unit blends in perfectly with the existing building.

Our former warehouse has been transformed into a dedicated
secondary Finishing area with many pieces of equipment
from our main factory being relocated here.  Our Hand
Finishing team has also moved across and is being managed
by new recruit Peter Coppard.

The move has been carefully managed allowing all print
jobs to be produced on time, in spite of the obvious
logistical challenges that are associated with transferring a
large amount of key Finishing equipment.

Arsenal FC Official Handbook
Bishops Printers has recently printed the offical Arsenal FC
handbook - a highly informative publication that provides a
comprehensive array of statistics and features on every
aspect of the club.

Player profiles, a look behind-the-scenes at how the club
operates and even details of every season played are
contained in this impressive annual publication.

A total of 7,000 copies were printed and the end product
looks stunning with metallic gold used throughout.  Various
finishing methods were used including matt lamination while
perfect binding safely secures the 172 pages.

We were delighted to play a sizeable role in the completion
of this major project and the handbook has been endorsed by
star players including Theo Walcott (top) and Denilson.

Internal Sales team additions
We have welcomed two new faces to our Sales department in
recent weeks.

Sophie Clulow and Craig Smith (both pictured on the right)
join a successful team headed up by Internal Sales Manager,
Sam Hitchman.

Both possess a great knowledge and understanding of print
with a commitment to providing the very best service to all
their customers with excellent account management.

As with each member of our Sales team, both will ensure
that all print jobs are processed, managed and delivered with
the high level of accuracy and professionalism that we pride
ourselves on.

If your account is being looked after by either Sophie or
Craig and you need to get in touch to discuss an upcoming
print project, they can be contacted on 023 9233 4900.

Bishops Printers now PEFC Certified
Having recently been formally FSC Certified, we are pleased to
announce that Bishops Printers has now received official
PEFC Certification.

Our certificate can be downloaded by clicking here

The PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest
Certification schemes) was founded in 1999 and, since then,
countries from six continents have joined.

It is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental
organisation which promotes sustainably managed forests
through third-party certification.

This is a considerable acheivement for us and further
illustrates our commitment to environmentally-friendly
processes and policies.

SWAGs Calendar 2010
We are delighted to be printing the SWAGs Calendar, which
has been put together as an exciting fundraising initiative for
'Help for Heroes'.

The calendar, which includes various photos of servicemen's
wives and girlfriends, was devised by 20 year-old Kelly Monk
(a SWAG herself), who features prominently in the images.

In order to signify the beginning of the much-anticipated
print run, some of the girls appeared at our premises and
posed for a few pictures.

Everyone at Bishops is thrilled to be associated with the
calendar and we would like to show our support for this
extremely worthwhile project.

To find out more and place an order for the calendar, simply

FSC status confirmed
Following several months' research, planning and preparation,
we are delighted to have now achieved FSC certification.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is widely regarded as one
of the most important initiatives in the print industry during
recent years.

It is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit
organisation that provides standard setting, trademark
assurance and accreditation services for companies
interested in responsible forestry.

From over 10,000 printing firms in the UK, only around 700
have attained FSC status (7%).

The official handover was conducted by Jon Julian from SGS
(pictured on the right), who presented our Managing Director,
Gareth Roberts, with the all-important certificate.

For more information on our environmentally-friendly policies
and processes, visit our Environment section.

Sales team restructured
A number of personnel changes have been made in order to
strengthen our Sales function.

Gary Potter (pictured) has been promoted to the new role of
Sales Director, assuming responsibility for the entire customer-
facing operation, including Sales, Marketing and Estimating.

Building a clear strategy and governing the direction of Sales
is a key objective of this role to ensure that the business
continues to grow each year.

Two other members of the existing Sales force have also been
promoted to make sure that both areas of the department are
managed effectively.  Mike Goodall becomes the new Field
Sales Manager and takes charge of a vastly experienced team
that covers the south-east of England.  Bishops' Internal
Sales function will be managed by Sam Hitchman, who has
been tasked with establishing an even more vibrant and busy
environment for the Account Managers.

The new structure emphasises our commitment to a
professional and coherent approach to building the business.

Hat-trick of contracts celebrated
In a major coup for us, three lucrative match day football
programme contracts have been secured over recent weeks.

A two-year deal with League One Charlton Athletic was first to
be confirmed.  This was followed by the news that local
Premier League team, Portsmouth, had signed a three-year
contract.  Finally, it was revealed that Arsenal had also
committed - this time on a rolling one-year agreement.

When taking into account that additional print work will
almost certainly follow from each club, the estimated
combined value to Bishops will approach £1m.

This hat-trick of successes adds to the contracts already in
place at Chelsea, Fulham & Crystal Palace.

In order to successfully manage the increased print demands
this will bring, a number of changes are being made including
the purchase of new finishing equipment that will top £500k.

This includes a third stitching line and an additional folding
machine.  Work has already started on a revised factory
layout that will also allow for future expansion.

Expansion of Estimating Team
The demand for our services has been so high in recent months
that we have taken the decision to expand our Estimating
Department with the recruitment of a new Estimator - Alan
Tarrant.

In addition to Alan's arrival, the team has been restructured with
the promotion of Adam Hayward (pictured) to the new position
of Commercial Manager.  This role will have a focus on quote
accuracy and speed of turnaround as well as achieving and
maintaining the highest possible standards of service in the
department.

Promoting staff from within is encouraged at Bishops, with an
emphasis on recognising achievement and rewarding members
of staff who show great potential.

Estimating Team on 023 9233 4900.

Mark Woodman promoted to Senior Production Manager
We are delighted to announce that Mark Woodman has been
promoted from his role of Account Manager to the Senior
Production Manager position.

Mark's responsibilities will include linking the various production
departments and ensuring that we produce our work efficiently
and on time, every time.

This is a very positive change to our structure and one that we
hope will have a considerable impact on our business. It goes
without saying that we all wish Mark the very best in his new
role at Bishops Printers.
